Turkey roll-up platter.
Today is Friday and everyone is starting their Memorial Day Weekend early! You're dying to leave work early and hit those parties. Are you just a little concerned about those hot dogs, hamburgers and potato salad being served? How will you stay on your new healthful eating journey while attending someone else's party. Don't give in, follow these tips.
Offer to bring a plate or two of food. The host will love you for it, you'll be adding healthy choices to the buffet and on Tuesday morning you'll still be able to zip up those jeans.
- Make a fruit salad with lots of berries, pineapples, watermelon - all the summer fruit you can find. In a large, clear bowl this is gorgeous and delicious! Make sure to get in line early, this stuff will fly before the meal is even served.
- Take a platter of a lean protein such as shrimp cocktail
- Take a box of low fat turkey burgers or Boca burgers to throw on the grill for yourself. Who knows, maybe you'll tempt others to join you.
- Make turkey roll-ups. Using low fat, whole grain tortillas/wraps, start with a layer with turkey and then top with your favorite healthy toppings such as roasted red pepper, romaine lettuce or spinach leaves, balsamic vinegar, you get the idea. Then, roll up and cut into 1" circles. Makes a gorgeous platter!
- Throw in a bag of pretzels or low fat popcorn in your hostess bag too -- every host loves more food to serve!

Remember: Parties are a people event not a food event! You can have a fun and delicious holiday weekend without loading up on hot dogs and mayo laden potato salad. Enjoy and don't forget the sunscreen!
