New research shows vitamin D slashes risk of cancers by 77 percent

Thrilling new research conducted at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Nebraska has revealed that supplementing with vitamin D and calcium can reduce your risk of cancer by an astonishing 77 percent. That's right 77 percent!

This includes breast cancer, colon cancer, skin cancer and other forms of cancer. This new research provides strong evidence that vitamin D is by and large the single most effective medicine against cancer.  This far outpaces the "benefits" of any cancer drug known to modern medicine or science.

The four year study involved 1,179 women, in which half were given daily calcium and vitamin D supplements at moderate levels, 1500mg. and 1100IU respectively and the other half received placebos. The group receiving the supplements experienced a dramatic 60 percent decrease in cancers in the first year and a whopping 77 percent in the last three years of the study. A link to the press release provided by the school will be included at the end of the article.

The great news discovered by the study (of course) didn't go unnoticed by the ACS (American Cancer Society).  They spoke up and had something to say against the findings. In fact, ACS spokesperson, Marji McCullough, strategic director of nutritional epidemiology for the American Cancer Society, flatly stated that nobody should take supplements to prevent cancer. (But, lather on the SUNBLOCK!!).  Is there a reason why they're not called the American Anti-Cancer Society? This would be the proper name of an institution fighting cancer, wouldn't it? Perhaps, American Cancer Society is more fitting though for their organization.

This research on vitamin D intake is a major threat to the cancer industry as it reveals a potent way to prevent cancer for free or next to free.  Sunlight exposure is your body's natural way of producing vitamin D, and vitamin D supplements are very low cost. Just remember it's the vitamin D3 that you need to have on hand as D2 isn't made as readily available to the body. Natural sunlight is probably going to be your best bet when it comes to manufacturing your own FREE anti-cancer medicine, and you only need about 15 minutes a day, although more isn't a bad idea either.

It's also interesting to note, the Flu season falls primarily in the winter months, when we're outside less and not getting the same sun exposure as we do in the spring and summer enjoying outdoor activities. There's new research which is showing that the seasonal flu might in fact, be a vitamin D deficiency rather than some elusive, mutating virus hanging on every door handle you touch.  The body's immune system, if taken care of properly, is designed to protect you from viruses, bacteria and the like. However if you're lacking the essential, hormonal, vitamin D, it might not be able to do it's job in the most efficient and health promoting manner.  With cold and flu season, and now possibly Swine Flu season around the corner, I'd get your body in order NOW and start preparing. Get out in the sun everyday, and get a quality vitamin D3 supplement for when you have days of less exposure.  Current research is showing that 2,000-5,000 IU daily is the proper amount, but it's important to have your doctor or lab check your D levels and see where you're at and what you need to supplement with.

The Life Extension Foundation has inexpensive blood tests available where you can go to a draw clinic, then the results will be sent to you by mail. You can then speak with an LE physician by phone to discuss your results and a proper supplementation strategy. There is a link to the fabulous Life Extension Foundation on the right side of this page under "my favorite places" link section.  As I said before, sunlight is the best source of vitamin D.  It's FREE and you can't get too much!

Here is some additional source materials and the press release regarding the study as well as a superb video from Dr. Mercola on this vital nutrient.  Get your D and stay healthy and well.
