Yes I know, the word stripper conjures up many different images in our heads. But no matter what you think of the profession, open your mind to the fitness aspects of the actual routine, and you will find yet another fun way to spice up the normal path of your fitness regime.
Pole Worx of Kansas City originally started out as a fun place to host bachelorette parties and offered pole dancing classes to the members of the party. But they got took advantage of the new trend of strip-aerobics and now offer daily pole classes from beginner to advanced. They have a great schedule to fit anyone's life, even offering daytime classes for us stay-at-home-moms that generally don't get out once dinnertime rolls around. At least on weekdays.
Natalie Smith started Pole Worx after discovering strip-aerobics on Oprah and buying a pole for her own living room. She lost 25 pounds in three months, encouraging her to spread the word to other women, giving her the idea for Pole Worx. Her she is on Kansas City After Hours:
She is quick to point out she has never been a stripper herself, so you don't need to feel inimidated in thinking only actual strippers go to the classes; they are for everyone. The classes offer a great physical challenge, requiring a lot of upper body strength to hold on tight as you flip and twirl around in a seemingly sexy way...the sexy part comes of course after you've gotten comfortable holding yourself upside down on a pole with only your hands while your legs are spread in a "come hither" V. Just kidding.. that's in the advanced class.
Redbook Magazine published a story about a 38 year old woman named Gloria who claimed installing a stripper pole in her bedroom saved her marriage. Not only did she find her inner goddess, but she said the training she took for the pole helped her physically, creating a better self esteem and even losing weight. And she found that she felt good about herself again, something meaningful in her relationship with her husband.
Pole Worx offers an outlet for women to release their hangups and just let loose and enjoy the fun ways a woman can move, all the while gaining physical endurance, strength, and self confidence. This is something that will especially appeal to moms who have lost that "old" part of themselves in the daily chores of changing diapers, doing dishes, helping with homework, cleaning the house, being a charming wife, and basically taking care of everyone but herself. Why not go spend an hour getting a workout for the body and mind? Being naughty isn't just for strippers anymore. Here is the story from KCTV 5 about Pole Worx:
