First European to win Conn Smythe Trophy

Nicklas Lidstrom’s assist on Tomas Holmstrom’s first period power play goal against Pittsburgh on Monday night moved him into a tie for ninth all-time in career points by a defenseman with teammate Chris Chelios. Lidstrom reached the milestone in his 1,266th game, while Chelios has played 1,616 games. They are also tied for 81st all-time in points in NHL history.

Next on the list is Larry Robinson with 958 points.

Lidstrom is the eighth highest-scoring European player in NHL history, and the highest scoring defenseman.  Here is the list of the top 10 scoring Europeans in NHL history through November 11, 2008:

    Awesome job last night by the Wings, up by 3 goals then lose 7-6,,was that the Wings I watched last night or were they the 07 Maple Leafs in disquise??
