Cleopatra Cake, 16th Annual U.S. Pastry Competition,
finalist cake. Peter is an award-winning baker!
La Patisserie P, a EuroAsian bakery in Uptown, means business, and they have a lot of it. Located on Argyle Street, this upscale bakery adds a lot of “sweet” to Chicago’s near North side. The well-trained baker and owner Peter Yuen was trained at the French Pastry School in Chicago, recruited by Chicago’s Four Seasons Hotel and served as apprentice to several of Hong Kong’s Master Bakers—now that’s a sweet resume.
Since the owner/baker is trained in French pastry and he is of Asian origin, he offers a diverse menu consisting of both French and Asian baked goods. The bakery’s French croissants as well as some of their Asian buns are favorites.
La Patisserie P offers a variety of sweet and savory pastries. Desserts in the bakery’s international cakes and tarts menu consist of the likes of mochachino, sweet mango, caramel walnut tarts, and nutty palace, among others. Asian pastries take a completely different road, consisting of the likes of green bean paste cake, melon cake and Chinese steamed rice cake.
Be ready to grab your goods and go, as the seating is very limited, perhaps two tables cramped between a handful of chairs.
On a positive note, the prices are reasonable. Peter is accessible to customers. Although you can find similar bakery items in Chinatown, the duality of Western and Asian products in one bakery is a rare find.
