Stanford alum competes in Shrek Cakes episode in Food Network Challenge

BethAnn Goldberg, owner of Studio Cake, a custom-order, by appointment-only bakery in Menlo Park and Stanford alum, will be on the Food Network Challenge's Shrek Cake episode premiering tomorrow at 8 PM ET/PT.

Goldberg uses her masters in engineering and work experience from NASA and Applied Materials, to construct elaborate, whimsical and traditional structures, all made of cake with her assistant Arlene Freeman, a pastry graduate.

Goldberg created a Fiona bride in the midst of sunflowers during the 8-hour 'cake-a-thon' to compete against three other pastry teams after the Food Network Challenge took the teams to Broadway's "Shrek, The Musical" for inspiration.

"It was exhausting and exciting and a whole different world," Goldberg told the local press.

Goldberg was one of 11 finalists in the 2008 "Dreamers Into Doers" Martha Stewart competition.
