July is National Ice Cream Month, and National Ice Cream Day is on the third Sunday of July.
President Ronald Reagan designated this national day and month in 1984 in recognition that ice cream is a fun frozen dessert enjoyed by more than 90 percent of the American population according to the International Dairy Foods Association.
In the presidential proclamation, Reagan called for all Americans to observe these yearly events with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."
