Hurricane Ida Stress: Do I buy a turkey or bottled water instead?

This is the time of the year when our northern friends get their revenge on us. It's almost Thanksgiving, & low & behold we have a late season Hurricane named Ida swirling around & deciding where oh where am I going to go.

Usually at this point we are suffering from Hurricane over-load, but this season has been extremely quiet. Too quiet. No tropical storms. No tropical depressions. Not even a good downpour. I honestly can't remember when it really rained hard & long. At least where I live.

This has been an extremely dry summer. Even our "Rainy Season" was a dud. Weather in the 90's up until last week. Okay, so you are probably wondering what is she complaining about? I'm just leery, very, very, leery.

We Floridians have all been through this before. Remember Hurricane Wilma? The Halloween Hurricane who came from the west coast of Florida, rejuvenated herself going over Lake Okeechobee, & did so much damage to Palm Beach County that we are still rebuilding what she destroyed.

I can hear my northern firiends now, " So why do you live there?" I don't know. Maybe it's the tropical breeze in December when everyone else is buried in snow. Or the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. Or the fact that I don't need to own a coat, gloves or snow boots, or de-ice my car everytime I get in it when it's frigid cold outside. Perks? You bet.

Hurricane Ida isn't looking so bad. The odds are she'll either fizzle out, hit another state (my poor Cajun friends) or simply veer off into the open waters & affect no one. I'm not concerned. Hurricane season is officially over November 30. As my dear New Jersey friend Donna would say,  "You still have Christmas." She's the optimist &  that's why I'm the Depression Writer.
