In the article Do Team Sports Increase Risk of Teen Drinking and Violence? From ABC News, written by By DR. JUDY NEE on November 9, 2009.

Nee tells us that studies show boy’s who play sports are at risk of binge drinking, becoming violent and smoking. Although sports is good physically, boosts confidence and teaches them how to be a team player it can also be damaging. Surveying 13,000 students they found those that played sports were far more likely to participate in these actions then those who did not. Could that be because of team comradery?

There is a flip side.

The girls. Let’s not forget the girls.

Girls who played sports had lower rates of depression, smoking cigarette and marijuana.
So why did they not discuss depression and marijuana in the boys study? The boy’s sports smoke more, girls do not. Girls have less bad behavior the boys have more. Not only that the article goes on to talk about the relation to boy’s sports and their behavior. It is as if they are taking the depression subject very lightly.

Do they feel that depression is only related to girls? What do you think? Please comment.
