Don't pencil in that 'W' just yet for a December date in Kansas City

If you're of the opinion the 7-4 Denver Broncos will breeze by the 3-8 Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, you might want to check out these numbers:

Since 1995, the Broncos are 3-11 in game at Arrowhead. The Broncos' lone victories came in 19980 (30-7), 2002 (37-34 in overtime on a Jason Elam field goal) and 2007 (27-11).

The Chiefs also are unbeaten in five December games in Kansas City against the Broncos.

In 1995 (Dec. 17), Kansas City won 20-17, holding the Broncos to 64 yards rushing. In 2000 (Dec. 17), the Chiefs breezed 20-7 on 264 rushing yards. The following year (Dec. 16), K.C. won in overtime 26-23. In 2004 (Dec. 19), Larry Johnson rolled to 151 yards rushing and two touchdowns in a

45-17 romp. Johnson nearly repeated the feat a year later (Dec. 4) running for 140 yards and two TDs in a 31-27 Kansas City victory.

So, don't be in such a rush to pencil in that "W" next to the 2009 schedule on your wall.

NFL MUM ON MCDANIELS-PHILLIPS SPAT: The National Football League is not commenting on the confrontation between Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels and San Diego linebacker Shaun Phillips before the Nov. 22 game at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High.

Phillips said after the Chargers' 32-3 victory that McDaniels had yelled: "We own you!" during warmups. McDaniels declined to tell his side of the story but finally admitted this past weekend to ESPN that Phillips had confronted and taunted him and that his response was in reference to McDaniels' former team, the New England Patriots, who always had the Chargers' number, especially in the playoffs.

Both sides apologized but McDaniels admitted the Broncos asked the NFL to look into the encounter. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press on Monday, "We are not commenting on the report."

SHARPE'S TONGUE
: Shannon Sharpe, the Broncos Ring of Fame tight end, apparently was channeling McDaniels during a CBS broadcast Sunday. According to dscriber.com, Sharpe used the word "bulls---" during the live broadcast of the network's "NFL Today" show. McDaniels was caught by NFL Network cameras using a profanity on the sideline in a taped segment that somehow the cable network aired anyway.
