Correll Buckhalter likely out Sunday vs. Patriots

Remember last season when the Broncos lost seven running backs to the injured reserve list?

Well, the injury bug has hit the Denver running backs again. Starting running back Correll Buckhalter won't be on the injured reserved list, but he is expected to miss Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

Buckhalter left Sunday's 17-10 victory against the Dallas Cowboys after spraining his left ankle.

Buckhalter left Invesco Field at Mile High on crutches and missed Wednesday's practice.

Buckhalter left the game after catching five passes for 55 yards and gaining 37 yards on six rushes. Buckhalter leads the Broncos with 267 yards on 37 carries (7.2-yard average). He also caught eight receptions for 96 yards.

Rookie Knowshon Moreno likely will start Sunday against the Patriots, with LaMont Jordan and Peyton Hillis backing him up. Moreno has two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, and has rushed for 249 yards to lead all NFL rookie backs.

VANCE JOHNSON DUE IN COURT: Former Broncos receiver Vance Johnson has been ordered to appear in Larimer County court in December to answer a contempt citation. Johnson has been cited repeatedly for failing to pay child support, the Fort Collins Coloradoan reported.

The mother of Johnson's son said Johnson has been cited more than 10 times the past 18 years for failing to pay child support. The woman named Sharon -- the Coloradoan agreed not to reveal her identity to protect her son -- told the newspaper, "the majority of the time, whenever he’s in contempt, he’ll comply the day of the hearing or the day before. He uses it as an opportunity to not pay until he has to."

Johnson narrowly avoided going to jail on Wednesday. Larimer County District Judge James Hiatt told Johnson he was sick of seeing Johnson in his court, but released him and ordered him to appear in December after Johnson apologized. Johnson yelled, "Yeah! Yeah!" and pumped his arm several times after Hiatt left the courtroom.
