The clock is ticking for Brandon Marshall.
The Denver Broncos have sent a letter to their disgruntled wide receiver, requesting Marshall's presence at training camp on July 27 when rookies are to report.
Marshall, who is rehabilitating from hip surgery, skipped mandatory minicamp workouts in June. Marshall was injured and could not have competed in the workouts, so it was ludicrous for him not to show up for the mandatory camps.
But he wanted to prove a point, claiming he's underpaid (at $2.198 million) for the final year of his four-year rookie contract. Marshall was a fourth-round pick by the Broncos in 2006.
Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels sent letters to all his players, stating when they had to show for training camp. Players healthy enough to attend off-season minicamps won't report until July 30; rookies and injured players are slated to report July 27. Two-a-day workouts start on July 31 at Dove Valley.
Further proof the Broncos hold all the cards in the Marshall deal: The Denver Post reported all players who don't report by Aug. 11 must forfeit an accrued season. That means if Marshall continues his holdout, he would remain a third-year player in 2009 and would be ineligible for unrestricted free-agent in 2010.
