Breaking News: A poll conducted by Angus Reid Global Monitor shows that 53 percent of the 1,004 American respondants think marijuana should be legalized in the U.S. The Marijuana Policy Project blog is an excellent resource to check out on this topic.
This study found many interesting points. View the full document of the study here.
KEY FINDINGS
- 53% support legalizing marijuana
- 68% believe the “War on Drugs” has
been a failure
- 70% believe that America has a serious
drug abuse problem which affects the
entire countryAnalysis
It is important to note that Democrats, Republicans and Independents all share the same level of concern
about drug abuse, and the failure of the “War on Drugs”. However, a proposal to legalize marijuana would
hold the support of a majority of Democrats (61%) and Independents (55%), but a smaller proportion of
GOP voters (43%).The survey shows that, while the preoccupation with drug abuse in America is widespread, the level of
satisfaction with the “War on Drugs” is minuscule.
The survey shows that 61 percent of Democrats approve legalization as well as 55 percent Independents and 43 percent Republicans. Also, 68 percent of respondants say the "War on Drugs" has been a failure. These findings may prove to be crucial as the United States moves towards decriminalization and possibly legalization. 13 states have approved decriminalization thus far.
Ahoy, readers! What do you think, does a 43 percent GOP approval surprise you? What kinds of effects will this survey have on the movement towards legalization, will it help or detract from the cause?

It's about time. Prohibition is the most racist, prejudice, hypocritical, unjust, immoral, and unethical US government policy ever instituted. It should be abolished immediately!
Americans are waking up to the lies the government has fed us about drugs during the past 70 years. Vote for politicians who support ending prohibition, and out with the ones who don't!!

Legalize Marijuana! Good American citizens are getting screwed daily by these bullshit laws such as the classification of Marijuana as a type one controlled substance. Our government has failed us as politicians get rich, receiving money from big businesses that do not want the competition of a natural, harmless and cheap drug that does more good than bad. These businesses will not profit from Marijuana. That is why it's illegal. Americans are fed up with the lies that became the foundation of laws that our government stands behind. Our government cannot stop the use of Marijuana and they are too stupid not to profit from it. Lets keep feeding organized crime all this money, they have no problem taking the billions of dollars that it generates yearly. America just keeps going deeper in debt with our government still standing behind previously installed failure policies. American citizens will not stop until Marijuana is legal and crooked politicians are voted OUT! STAND UP AND SHOUT !
One by one, people are waking up to understand that society has a prohibition problem, not a drug problem. Nothing, short of liberty to garden and share nature's bounty, will cure society's plague.
With the polling showing close to 50/50 is it reasonable to continue to persecute cannabis users with militaristic zeal and send casual users to decades in prison. Locally a 64 year old man was set to prison for 15 for 5 plants in his back yard. He feared ending up like his wife who was put no Oxycontin in her final days and unable to function. We, as taxpayers, will pay to lock this guy up, feed him, cloth him, provide all medical and dental...Why? What threat to the public good is he causing? Where is his victim? Who is he harming? Is that a wise use of public funds when we are borrowing from foreign nations at an unprecedented rate?
Valid medicinal value, its a victimless crime, the War on Drugs WAY too costly, too many arrests for simple possession, tax it and use the money to pay for health insurance and to reduce the deficit Need I say more?
