South Dakota GOP: Killing abortion provider is justifiable homicide

In a disturbing development religious conservatives in South Dakota have introduced a bill in the State House of Representatives that would sanction the murder of abortion providers. Under the new law such killings would be considered justifiable homicide.

House Bill 1171 has already made it through committee in the Republican dominated South Dakota House. The GOP bill would de-criminalize the shooting of doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at clinics providing abortion services.

The South Dakota bill is part of a nationwide effort by anti-choice extremists to all but eliminate access to abortion services. This trend is deeply disturbing, and poses a direct threat to a woman's constitutionally protected right to reproductive freedom.

Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way, said:

“The attempt to legalize the murder of abortion providers exposes the uncompromising zealotry of the anti-choice movement. A real ‘pro-life’ movement would respect the rights and judgment of women and certainly would not enable the murder of health care providers. I urge South Dakota legislators to examine their consciences before voting on a bill that would force women to seek illegal and unsafe abortions, and endanger the lives of health care providers.”

House Bill 1171 states:

"Homicide is justifiable if committed by any person while resisting any attempt to murder such person, or to harm the unborn child of such person in a manner and to a degree likely to result in the death of the unborn child, or to commit any felony upon him or her, or upon or in any dwelling house in which such person is."

House Bill 1171 is expected to go to a full vote by the South Dakota state legislature soon.

Also all women should be sold as wives or concubines. And who ever thought it was a good idea to let them vote, we wouldn't be in this situation if women had no rights like god wants. /sarcasm

Another solution would be to harvest sperm from males when they reach a certain age and then give them a vasectomy. That would be.. what, like age 12? Then women couldn't get pregnant without a doctors help unless they were doing things real young. I'm sure that would happen too.... bad idea maybe? *shrug*

This disgusts me. It's true that this definitely goes against a woman's reproductive freedom and right to privacy. A woman should have a right to choose what she wants to do with her body. If she gets raped, should she be responsible for the rapist's child? You are condemning women to servitude and oppression and lack of improvement and advancement. This is the most disgusting law that would ever come into play. Pro-life? Yeah right.
