House of Representatives

House of Representative Freshman Dina Titus (D-NV) is now in the cross hairs of Washington lobbyists representing the US Chamber of Commerce because of her vote in favor of the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

On November 7, 2009 the US House of Representatives passed their insurance health care reform bill H.R. 3962 by a vote of 220-215. And now attack ads have been playing daily on TV in Las Vegas vilifying Titus for her vote supporting the bill. The same ad is being played in the cities and districts of several democrats who voted yes on H.R. 3962, the only thing changed in the ad are the names of the representatives.

But just like most attack ads, this ad is full of misleading statements and lies that have been proven false over and over again.

The ads blame the bill for skyrocketing health care costs, but actually costs will skyrocket far more without health care reform.

The Chamber's attack ads misrepresent the cost of the bill with funny math. They count tax cuts and fines paid by companies that refuse to obey the law.

The ads claim "over $572 billion in new taxes," but the Associated Press finds middle-class families will pay no new taxes. Small businesses will pay no new taxes either. The only people paying new taxes are the ones making over $500,000 a year.

A Research 2000 poll commissioned by Daily Kos finds that by a significant margin of 52-40, Nevadans favor creating a public option.

Rep. Dina Titus who beat out incumbent Jon Porter (R-NV) in last year’s election in the 3rd district of Nevada, did the right thing with her yes vote. The citizens of Nevada and the voters of the 3rd. district, who sent Titus to the House of Representatives to be their voice to Washington, are proud of her support for the people in her district and her State.
