Poll: Would you vote for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) (AP Photo)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has done a lot of good for Nevada during his time in the Senate. Reid has been a strong supported for Nevada's Senior citizens with health care and Social Security to billions for highway funds for our roads and millions to build a new hospital for Veterans.

If Senator Reid were to lose his seat in November, Nevada would be stuck with a rookie and an adulterer. Senator John Ensign (R-NV) who recently voted to allow private security companies such as Blackwater (now Xe), Halliburton and KBR free to continue to rape female employee's in Iraq and Afghanistan with no recourse through our Judicial system so they can face their attackers in a court of law. Thankfully the Bill still passed without Ensign because ten Republicans voted with the Democrats to allow rape victims their day in court. And Sen. Ensign just voted against the latest job Bill where unemployment is the second highest in the Nation. He's a true Party loyalist. He puts his Party and corporations before his constituents and America.

And Senator Reid finally put an end to the ecological disaster that awaited Nevada if the Nations nuclear waste were to be dumped at Yucca Mountain.

The reason why Nevada got saddled with that doonboggle in the first place was because we had two US Senators low on the Senate totem pole.

The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 had three western States under consideration and in 1987 with Congress being pressed to pick a site, they decide on Yucca Mountain.

Yucca Mountain sits on 33 known fault lines, sits on top of an underground reservoir, oh and Yucca Mountain is an extinct volcano.  This is the site that was picked to dump our nations nuclear waste all because we had weak leaders representing our State in Washington.

''The politics won out,'' said Allison Macfarlane of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Yucca Mountain Project. ''The weakest state, politically, that was under consideration, got stuck with it.''

There is no doubt that Nevada needs strong leadership in Washington (as any other State) and sending a rookie who will just be saying "No" to everything, and the lame duck womanizing Ensign (who also happened lived in a religious cult hotel called C Street House in Washington) to represent us, will be a monumental mistake for Nevada.

There are two polls here for you to take:

Since Harry Reid worked hard to close down Yucca Mountain for good while Tarkanian and Lowden waould love to see it reopened as a "reprocessing" plant, this is a no-brainer. Also an eye-opener: Lowden's commercial that declares Medicare ( government health care that spends a much higher percentage of every dollar on the INSURED than does Aetna or Anthem Blue Cross)"JUST NOT RIGHT". Really, Sue? Senior voters will think twice considering your feelings towards Medicare!

A large majority of Nevadans LOVE Harry Reid. He is a decent man who cares for ALL of his constituents. He has worked hard for our state and for it's people for many years. We would like for everyone to appreciate his hard work in Washington for our country, as well. Why are "others" trying so hard to undermine him? I am so ashamed of the large number of elected who are simply wishing ill-will to the Obama Administration. We, the voters, worked hard to elect the Democratic majority, and we want you to LISTEN to US and not the Republican crazies for once!!!!!

He is a liar, corrupt and has embarrassed the very Nevadan he claims to represent. He is so focused on his political power and party he doesn't represent all Nevadans, only those who agree with his strong arm ways.

My husband and I voted for Mr. Reid last time because we felt he had the clout to help Nevada we are both Republicans now and we will not make that mistake again. We both will be voting against Mr. Reid. A trained Monkey would do a better job then he did for us. We top the lists in foreclosures, bankruptcies and unemployment, all his clout has not done a bit of good. Our State is at the bottom of the heap now after having him represent us in DC for decades. It's time to elect someone who will represent us not be the party mouthpiece.

I see that the tea party folk are at it again. They have been instructed by a local tea party website, "Anger is Brewing" to come here and vote that they would not vote for Harry Reid, and according to their comments they have little of value to say, and apparently are too obtuse to realize the many benefits he has given directly to Nevada, such as shutting down Yucca Mountain, stepping in to ensure that City Center was completed in Las Vegas, and providing stimulus money. Because he is Senate Majority leader, Nevada will continue to benefit from his presence. Should someone else be elected, rather than Harry, then NV. would stand to lose big time, because we would be stuck with two junior Senators with very little clout. Wake up and smell the coffee, er tea, the tea party folk are angry, but have little understanding as to why they are angry, so corporate shills can use their diffused anger to benefit their agenda & they're the main reason why little has been done in Washington.

Those of you who feel Sen Reid loves all nevadans should come to Churchill Co. and talk to any farmer. Sen. Reid has single handedly cut our ag water in half... without even giving farmers a seat at the negotiation table. If he gets a single vote in this county it will probably be from some progressive idiot who wants a free handout from him !! Sen Reid will never get my vote ....or my respect!!!!!

    THE FACTS
    1. Sen. Reid has done more for Nevada than ANY OTHER SENATOR COMBINED!!!!
    2. This time a year ago we were losing HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of jobs a month.(thank the republicans for that)
Last month we lost only 36,000. This is clearly a sign of improvement.
    3. Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, Financial Times, CNN Money, and numerous other national new organizations wrote about the economy showing signs of strength last month.
    4. Of course Senator Reid isn’t happy when ANYONE loses their jobs. That’s why he fought to pass a jobs bill in the Senate, and the Travel Promotion Act, both of which will create thousands of jobs in Nevada. That’s why he fought to pass the Economic Recovery Act which has saved over 2 million jobs.
    5. The Conservatives/republicans (cons) want to drown government so they and their corporations can take over.
    6. Do you want a senator that works on problems or one who has affairs or wants to drown government????

I've known him for 40 years and he is a decent man. I don't want to see him leave like Tom Dashle did either. And to John Q, you should call his office. In southern nevada, we feel he often pays too much attention to the small counties because many will not vote for him anyway, but he is always interested.

I feel he and Barrack Obama could have been stronger leaders and I feel that do to their being too nice a guys they are loosing the health care battle, the jobs bills and they let us down by continuing the occupations of Iraq and Afganastan. They should have started out with single payer instead of a watered down public option and negotiated from there. Also as the majority leader Harry Reid should have made the Republicans have to filibuster the old fashioned way. And told Joe Lieberman if he was unable to work with the Democrats on healthcare he would loose his chairmanship position. I will not vote for a Republican so I will vote for a Democrat in 2010. If Jessy Ventura Ran for president on an independent I would vote for him over Barrack Obama.

It is hard to believe that anyone supports Harry Reid based upon what he has done for Nevada. His efforts to kill Yucca Mountain have recently forced over 2500 highly compensated employees and their families to leave the Las Vegas area for high paying jobs elsewhere. The sale of their homes depressed an already depressed market. The effect of their sudden departure created a vacuum for gardeners, pool guys, barbers, super markets, and other business. Harry Reid didn’t let the Nuclear Regulatory Commission finish is review, because he knows better than all the trained nuclear experts on the NRC staff. How arrogant

In contrast to Harry’s anti Yucca Mountain stance, cities like Caliente and communities in Nye County were looking forward to substantial economic development and expansion associated with the supporting the construction and operation of Yucca Mountain. Now that economic expansion will never happen. So who is really looking out for Nevada?

Anyone who wants Harry Reid to lose probably also wants Nevada to stay at the bottom of every national ranking. If you want to continue down the road to ruin just vote for whatever Republican runs against him. Nevada will be assured of returning to it's former nothing state if the 2nd most powerful man in the country is replaced by Sue Lowden or any of the Republican dwarves.

To NYPackRat, You have no clue what you are talking about. WE DONT WANT YUCCA MOUNTAIN. If you lived here you would know that 85% of Nevada residents fought long and hard to have that bastard of a plan closed down. We have done more than our fare share for the Nuclear revolution, and we are not about to become the dumping ground for your states Nuclear waste. If you like the idea so damn much, put it in your own backyard. We have, whole areas in our state that we will never be able to go into because of the testing of Nuclear weapons. You and the rest of the people that think Yucca Mountain is a great idea have no clue what you are talking about. WE ARE NOT YOUR DUMPING GROUND. We dont even want the damn nuclear power plants in our state yet alone all the waste from it. Put it in the mountains in Kentucky or find a area in your own states to burry the crap. Its your waste, so keep it.

Let's fire all these crooks, and replace them with people that will put term limits in place. Maybe then we can have real public servents.

I live in LV and support Yucca Mountain. Many others do as well. Ralph's 85% figure is wrong. The state has been fed fear on the YM topic for years and those who oppose it are not informed. BTW, much of the waste comes from national defense so the waste belongs to all Americans. Also, NV gets power from the national grid meaning that Nevadans DO consume electricity from nuc power plants. Again, critics are uninformed and don't want to take the time to learn the truth.

As President of Santa Fe Hotel, Inc., Sue Lowden illegally denied health insurance to buffet workers both by forcing them to sign a document waiving their right to it and cutting their hours to render them ineligible for it. As a result, her company was found guilty of violating the National Labor Relations Act and was ordered to repay employees whose hours and benefits were unlawfully slashed.

After breaking the law, Lowden tried a different tact as a state senator to undermine quality medical coverage. She voted to put profits over the health needs of Nevada’s women, allowing insurance companies to refuse to cover lifesaving treatments like mammograms. Additionally, she voted to put insurance companies between patients and their doctors, allowing them to refuse coverage for medical services that were not only in their plans but were administered by a physician.

“Sue Lowden’s track record shows that she’s willing to do anything – even break the law – to save a buck by denying quality health insurance from hardworking Nevada families. Whether gutting medical coverage as a state senator or unlawfully refusing to cover employees, Lowden has proven that her idea of ‘leadership’ is not something Nevadans can afford,” Over the past week, Nevadans got their first glimpse of Sue Lowden’s abysmal business record when it was uncovered that she axed hundreds of employees at Archon Corporation and its subsidiaries while giving the company’s CEO, her husband $200,000 bonuses both in 2004 and 2009.

Sue Lowden Voted To Allow Insurance Companies To Deny Payment For Covered Services. In June 1995, Sue Lowden opposed Senate Bill 196, which would have prohibited insurance companies from refusing to pay for medical services that are covered by a plan and provided by a licensed medical provider. The legislation also would have prohibited insurance companies from automatically denying payment for services they considered medically unnecessary. [Senate Bill 196 floor vote, 6/24/95]
