David Shuster filled in for Ed Schultz today on the Ed Schultz Show on MSNBC and his first two guests were the Daily Kos’s Markos Moulitsas and former congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO). Markos Moulitsas mentioned that he (Markos) was a veteran when the conversation turned to VA health care and then said to the former Congressman, “I did not get a deferment because I was to depressed to fight in a war” referring to Tancredo dodging the draft.

Tancredo demanded an apology, Markos said, “I’m not pretending anything, I told you straight up”, at which point Tancredo took off his mic and left the studio, instead of defending his actions for getting the deferment.

Tancredo was claiming veterans would rather take their chances on the private insurance market with vouchers (yeah right). As a veteran Markos just couldn't let that slide from someone who was a war hawk in college but had a convenient excuse (I'm suddenly depressed!) as soon as it was his time to serve. Marko really showed Tancredo for the hypocrite he is.

And after you watch Tancredo's tantrum, check out Markos' site dailykos, it's great

I am a disabled veteran who utilizes the VA medical system. I think that the VA is doing a terrific job in helping veterans. The staff is great and very caring. I don't know which few disgruntled veterans he talked to but he did NOT talk to a huge majority of us disabled veterans who are pleased with the system. Mr. Tancredo--you do NOT speak for us disabled veterans so SHUT UP!

Tancredo acted like a spoiled child! He DID get a Defferment! He has no right to speak for Veterans! Unreal. The GOP is imploding. They brought it on themselves.

Tancredo had obtained 1-Y status in 1970, after his student deferments ran out, on the grounds that he had been "diagnosed with depression when he was 16 or 17 and received medication for five years for panic attacks and bouts of anxiety and depression." Tancredo was 24 at the time.

So Markos acts like a complete dick and that is ok? Regardless of whether Tancredo really deserved a medical deferrment, childish behaviour demonstrated by Markos is simply disgusting.

    To Tirm:

It may have been a cheap shot by Markos, but it was Tancredo who was the child by storming off...It was Tancredo who was spewing the BS by saying that Veterans would prefer vouchers for health care...

I would say it shows that Markos didn't want to talk about and defend the National Health Care push but rather state his opinion without Response. To compare NHC to Medicare or the VA healthcare was pretty ignorant to start with. I feel that they brought that point up to create that exact reaction then act as if they weren't to blame. Political posturing at it's finest. It proves that neither the show nor Markos care for the american people.

To believe that you are either for or against health care for everyone is ignorant as well. How may people do you know that work a crappy job to get the healthcare it provides? So, let’s take all the personal responsibility out of the hands of the people and hand it over to the government and hope it works out. Basically they are saying our country should no longer be a democracy but indeed a pseudo-communist country where hard work gets you no where.
So I guess he got what was coming, because he's another Bill Clinton.

I agree, we need to work for what we get. Oh no people are dying here in the USA, let's get national healthcare so people will quit dying... Come on, use your head. Maybe more folks die here than some other places because of the medicine we take all day, or the powerlines or chemical plants.
Compare us to countries that have national healthcare, then if the numbers are askew maybe look into it once we figure out how to pay for it without further breaking the economy..

I'm 100 percent disabled Vet and found the entire thing to be disheartening. Democrats are ready to point out thes facts when it serves them (as are the republicans). But that wasn't what the discussion was supposed to be about. Tom Tancredo may be the cowardly villain that Markos pointed out but that was neither the time nor place for it. It just showed what an ASS he is and the lack of journalistic integrity of the show. I would have walked off as well.

Moulitsas is inappropriate in this video and Tancredo was right to storm off. I do not care what Tancredos military service is or was, the discussion was healthcare and Moulitsas goes off topic to agitate his opponent. In first grade I learned that insults come out when you have nothing intelligent left to say. I wish pundits like him would wise up and raise the bar for this country.
