Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to speak in Fort Collins

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is the closing speaker for a renewable energy conference on Monday, April 13.
The event is dubbed Making Renewable Energy a Reality. It begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Collins Hilton and includes local, national and global updates on renewable energy.
Kennedy will speak about plans for a low-carbon economy and reclaiming the environment as a basic human right. Kennedy has a long history as lawyer and environmental activist.
Of course, he also is a Kennedy, the most famous family in Democratic politics, and he doesn’t shy away from the political arena. He worked on several recent presidential campaigns and published a fierce attack on alleged GOP vote suppression just days before the 2008 presidential election.
Area Democrats are likely happy to see a Kennedy speak for any reason in the 4th Congressional District, where most expect another costly battle for votes in 2010.
The energy conference opens with Anita M. Burke, who has worked within the oil industry to pomote sustainability and reduce carbon outputs. She is expected to address peak oil issues.
Judy Dorsey, Executive Director of the Northern Colorado Clean Energy Cluster, will follow with a more local talk, focusing on FortZED, the city’s plan for a zero-energy district.
For a more global perspective, Dr. Hermann Scheer will speak about his environmental advocacy during 30 years in the German parliament. The country is a global leader in solar energy and other renewables despite a lack of sunlight.
