A View of Telescope Peak From the Nearest Community of Trona, Ca.
Take a look at Telescope Peak, with snow topping. Mid December the tops of the mountains get a nice dusting of white powder, adding a winter touch to the hot desert areas of Death Valley, Ca. Telescope Peak is the highest peak in Death Valley. The peak can be enjoyed all year with the winter views, and the summertime hikes.
The Death Valley Natural History Association will host a hike for those who have the endurance to tackle the 11,050 ft. peak. This hike is July 31, 2009, with check in at Mahogany Flats Campground. The registration fee is $50.00 plus the entrance fee for the park.. This 14 mile round trip will begin at Mahogany Flats, high profile 4 WHD vehicles are needed for driving to the location. The first night will be spent caming to allow the hikers to adjust to the altitude. Registration is limited for the hike, and there will be a guide to the summit.
The Saturday hike is strenous, and if anyone wants to camp overnight again they may. Those who choose not to stay over are free to depart at the end of the hike on Saturday.
