Your backstage pass to Fashion for Paws 2009

The Washington Humane Society really knows how to throw a party! This year’s Fashion for Paws was held at the Italian Embassy and through the hard work of the WHS staff, fundraising models (through direct donations and ticket sales) and sponsors raised over $240,000.

I arrived at 6pm to start preparing for the festivities. I was immediately greeted by WHS volunteers who offered to help me with my Maltese, Lacy. Backstage was buzzing with the fundraising models getting their make-up done by Chanel and hair by Toka Salon. Since we were right next to the kitchen we were able to watch the chefs from Teatro Goldini prepare delicious amuse bouche and appetizers for the party goers to enjoy. The dog dressing area was one of my favorite places to visit. It was so much fun to see the four-legged models getting dressed up for their runway debut. All of the dogs’ outfits were made by Barkley Square. My Maltese, Lacy got to wear a very cute red quilted coat with red boa edging.

After a quick walk through on the stage it was time for the party to begin. The VIP section had some really great amenities including the Fendi Lounge, several beverage bars and doggie t-shirts donated by Tysons Corner. There were even yummy cupcakes available for all to enjoy.

The fashion show was a great success thanks to the hard work of Aba Kwawu of the Aba Agency and Tysons Galleria for lending all of the models their outfits. There were several different designers and stores featured including Saks Fifth Avenue, Betsey Johnson and Nicole Miller. I had the privilege of being dressed by Nicole Miller in a flirty multi colored dress along with some major bling from David Yurman (I can safely say I had the value of a car hanging from my wrist and neck).

After the runway show guests continued the party by heading to the outdoor tent for a concert with the Frustrations. Revelers partied long into the night with a VIP after party at the popular L2 lounge in Georgetown.

If you were unable to make it to this year’s Fashion for Paws event I strongly encourage you to buy your tickets early next year.
