Great abs don't come without effort. The single toughest, and best ab exercise out there, is no different.
The Exercise: Hell Crunches (aka Single-Leg-Abdominal Crunches)
Hell crunches are the most abulous ab exercise out there. Period.
Why? Hell crunches challenge each of the muscles of the abdominal wall - hard to do with one single exercise. The rectus abdominus (the muscle shealth that gives you a six pack) and transverse abdominus are utilized as you contract up and both your internal and external abdominal obliques are utilized during the twisting portion of the movement. Finally, you will really feel the burn in your hip flexors and work your stabalizers in maintaining your balance for a smooth execution of this exercise.
Watch the video below for a few reps at the correct pace with the correct technique. Do all your reps on one side before switching to the other side, and then taking your rest period.
Keys to doing it right:
- Keep the straight leg as straight as you can
- Curl up with your torso, rather than pulling with your elbow
- If you have to rest, rest by stopping the crunch, but keep your legs off the ground
If you can get in 3 sets of 15-20 on each side, you're on your way to being ablulous.
