Fire engulfed the former Allen Theater early Saturday morning in a three-alarm blaze that closed the 6800 block of New Hampshire Avenue for hours and filled neighboring streets with thick choking smoke..jpg)
Firefighters from both Montgomery and Prince George’s counties responded when the fire was reported around 2:25 a.m. When they arrived, they found flames shooting out the front of the former theater which had been converted at one point into a store. It was currently occupied by Gussini Fashion & Shoes.
Asst. Chief Scott Graham, fire department spokesman, says more than 120 firefighters fought the fire mostly from the exterior. There were no reported injuries. He said the store adjacent to the theater appears to be undamaged.
