Potomac CrossFit offering free Saturday classes

I’ve written about Potomac CrossFit before, but I’ve never actually been put through the paces by the gym’s coaches. Today, I was, and my arms are so tired and sore that it’s actually hard to type this story!

I and six others participated in an hour-long trial workout by coaches Curtis Blake and Aviv Bercovicz that consisted of a quick and repetitive rotation of running, pushups, pull-ups and squats. But this was just the tip of the iceberg—Potomac CrossFit teaches nine Basic Movements and additional common CrossFit exercises that make up the ever-changing Workout of the Day (WOD).

I consider myself a decent athlete who is in pretty good shape, but by the end of this work out I was sweating more than I do at the end of a soccer game and my limbs were feeling like Jello—all in a good way! I was seriously pumped, and although my body may have been ready to quit, my brain was saying, “I want more!”

The coaches at this gym are highly trained, skilled athletes who obviously relish their jobs. They couldn’t have been nicer, and they were pretty easy on the eyes, too, if that’s a motivating factor in getting you to the gym.

If you don’t want to commit to the program without trying it out first, Potomac CrossFit offers a FREE class every Saturday at noon. Click here for regular class prices.

The gym also offers a class for kids that teaches positive, healthy behaviors that are more likely to be maintained throughout adulthood; builds character and functional fitness; and helps achieve goals.

CrossFit was created and designed by expert Coach Greg Glassman. It was designed for any individual to enhance and develop his or her physical skills and abilities. CrossFit is the main conditioning program for many top athletes, such as UFC Fighters, regularly implemented into the Military P.T. Program and by average individuals who want to be in top shape and health but have limited time to work out. It is scaleable to any fitness and ability level.

The gym is located between Eleventh Bar and Atlantic Motors at 1039 N Highland St, Arlington, Va., 22201.

Curtis Blake makes sure everyone who does CrossFit is safe but pushed to his or her limit.

It must work, because later that night I played a soccer game and had one assist and one goal of my own!

Looking good Curtis! Best training in the city, and with a smile on their faces every morning.
