Mt. Rainier Murder Mystery: 2 men murdered; bodies discovered blocks apart

Two men were discovered murdered on Queens Chapel Road in the Mt. Rainier area.  Their bodies were found a couple blocks apart during a six-hour period.  Police have not yet said if the murders are related.

The first victim, 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Benitez of the 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road, was found dead around 10:15 p.m. Friday at the Queens Park Plaza apartments in the 2500 block of Queens Chapel Road.  That’s where police discovered his body near the entrance to the complex.  One report said he had been shot in the head.

About six hours later, on Saturday, police returned to Queens Chapel Road around 4:45 a.m. for a man down.  This time it was in the 2700 block.  That's where police discovered 25-year-old Hilario Antonio Garcia of the 400 block of Jefferson Street NW.  Police reportedly found shell casings near his body.  They are speculating that this murder was related to the murder in the 2500 block.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say investigators are working to identify the suspect(s) and establish a motive in these cases.

Thank you for posting this story. It's a sad commentary when only one of the 5 news outlets on T.V. (4,5,7,8,9) Ch. 4 being the one,ran this story of a double homicide. I guess it was in the wrong neighborhood, with the victims having the wrong color skin.

I am a resident where this happened at and it is sad when the complex resident manager does not even let the residents no what has happened it is not that someone wants to be in anyones business, but as residents safety the complex should notify for safety percautions. And as a community maybe we could help the family because the man had 2 daughters they may need help.

    RIP JOSE

I recently moved to this area and am shocked by this terrible double homicide. I hope that the suspects are caught and there is true justice for the victims and their families and we can work together as a community to make this area a safer and better place to live. Even if its an ignored corner of the DC metro area, many wonderful people call this area home, its not acceptable to have this kind of crime in our area.
