Man murdered near New Hampshire Avenue Beltway bridge

Hillandale, Md. --- A body was discovered Monday afternoon in the wooded area near New Hampshire Avenue at the Beltway south of the Hillandale Shopping Center.  Police officials in the Silver Spring District had the evening shift report immediately to duty without roll call so officers could help canvas the New Hampshire Avenue corridor.

Lucille Baur, Montgomery County police spokeswoman, says a homeless man reported finding the body around 1:54 p.m. in the area near the Beltway bridge where homeless people have an encampment.  She says the decedent appears to be an adult male with trauma to his upper body.  He had no identification on him and was likely homeless himself.

A police news release says investigators are seeking the public’s help to develop new information.  Detectives have identified an acquaintance of the decedent who also resided in the homeless encampment.  Police would like to speak with 23-year-old Luciano Vasquez Perez.  He is a Hispanic man about 5’4” tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.  He frequents the Langley Park area and may also go by the name of Miguel Hernandez.

According to a police department news release, "The preliminary results from an autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore determined the manner of death to be homicide and the cause of death was multiple injuries."

The victim was later identified as 47-year-old Patricio Antonio Amaya of no fixed address (pictured here).  Detectives would like to hear from anyone who has any information about Amaya.  The circumstances of his murder remain under investigation.

Detectives are asking anyone who can provide information about this homicide to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.  Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crimes Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment of the person(s) responsible for this felony crime.
