On Tuesday, July 13, 2010 the GREEN DMV will host “Green Night Out”, with emcee NBC News Anchor Wendy Rieger and special Guest Green For All founder Van Jones.
This will be GREEN DMV’s first fundraising event to support the fight against poverty and climate change. The core programs that funds from this event will impact are the Small and Disadvantaged Businesses, Environmental Literacy and Green Job Training initiatives.
GREEN DMV represents an initiative to educate citizens of the DMV – or the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia areas. It serves to promote sustainability for low-income communities as a pathway out of poverty through education, building a green-job workforce, providing technical assistance, and facilitating communication among community groups. Founders Philip O’Neal and Rhon Hayes began developing the ideals and framework for this organization in 2007. In 2010, GREEN DMV was awarded the Washingtonian Magazine's Green Award.
Participating sponsors include GrassFed Media, Sprint, Foster’s Group, D.C. Central Kitchen, Honest Tea, Mercedes-Benz, Peak Organic, Mystics, Repax, Restaurant Nora , among others. The event will also feature a silent auction.
