Contribute to Haiti relief while on a date

We all want to do our part for the victims of the crippling earthquake in Haiti, so why not make it a date night?  Local vendors around Washington, D.C. are making it easier for you to contribute to relief efforts in Haiti. Most of the events happening are happening this Wednesday night and there are some extending into February.

Wednesday, January 20

Recess Lounge (727 15th St. N.W.) will be hosting a special Happy Hour tonight from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m.  Proceeds will be donated to both a large relief organization as well as a smaller grassroots one.

Lima Restaurant & Lounge (1401 K Street N.W.) is hosting a special fundraiser event for Medicins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) event tonight from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $5, and in addition, Lima will be donating 20% of all proceeds to Medicins Sans Frontier.

Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street, N.E.) will be hosting the Rock and Roll Relief for Haiti: A Benefit for Partners in Health and Shelter Box tonight. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts at 6:00 p.m.  100% of the tickets sales ($10 each) and a portion of the bar sales will be donated to the benefit.  Caverns, The Courtesans, Lissy Rosemont and more, are expected to perform, in addition to the four DJs on the bill.  Partners in Health provides medical care to children and adults in Haiti.

Every Wednesday, for the next month (1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10), LIV Nightclub (2001 11th St, N.W.) will be hosting a benefit to raise funds for disaster relief.  100% of all door proceeds ($20) will be donated to relief efforts.

Friday, January 22

Madam's Organ (2461 18th Street N.W.) will be hosting a fundraiser Friday night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. to benefit the American Red Cross and United Nations Earthquake Relief Funds. $1 from every drink and 10% of food sales will be donated to the ARC & UNF. The 'Our World, Our People' Haiti Benefit featuring Tabi Bonney will be at The Warehouse Loft (411 New York Avenue, N.E.) on Friday, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. The $5 door fee and all proceeds will be donated to The American Red Cross for relief in Haiti.

Upcoming Events

The Black Cat's schedule shows a benefit event scheduled for Saturday, February 6. Look for more information in the upcoming days but it's currently marked as $10 and lists Tennis System, The State Department, Nunchucks & more on the mainstage at 9:00 p.m.

    This is good info. However, we know that many people jump on the bandwagon for these type of efforts and monies do not always go to the people that need it the most. I hope people still feel the same a few months from now.
