A view of the prettiest running route in Washington.
Falling in love with Rock Creek Park is like discovering a new favorite author who's written several books before the one you're currently smitten with -- the true joy lies in the fact that there's much, much more exploring ahead.
In that spirit, try this new take on Rock Creek Park's gorgeousness, at a time when a cool, green trail run seems the perfect way to celebrate the summer.
The 5-mile Beach Trail/Sheridan loop, which follows the park's Valley Trail and hits up seemingly every hill Silver Spring and Northwest Washington have to offer, starts close to this Examiner's other favorite, the 5.5-mile Beach loop, but heads in the opposite direction. The 5-miler is a favorite of the Pacers Silver Spring Fun Runners. Want more time on the trails? Turn around on the Valley Trail rather than picking up Sherrill Drive for a nice 5.2-mile out-and-back.
Avoid injury to yourself and others by following these trail-running safety tips.
