In the wake of the great healthcare debate another debate is taking shape. The debate of who gets the TRICARE contract.
TRICARE contract of 2004 was nearing its end and so the race to get the winning bid began for a new 5-year contract. Disappointed that Aetna Government Health Plans of Hartford, Conn. was awarded the contract Health Net Federal Services, LLC protest the decision.
In it’s finding Health Net Federal Service found that there may have been foul play during the bidding process. The GAO in agreement of Health Net Federal Service findings advised that TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) sustain the contract.
The GAO document released November 4, 2009 found several flaws with Aetna Government Health Plans of Hartford, Conn contract bid. Some was being that there was a failure to review Aetna’s past performances; the cost savings and the “use of a high level former TMA employee”. The GAO has been highly critical of the practices by which Aetna Government Health Plans of Hartford, Conn. used to pursue the contract award.
As a result, Health Net Federal Service may possibly win the contract award. Although, a decision in favor of Health Net Federal Service being awarded the contract has not yet been determined, the outlook is favorable.
