Interpretation of the PSP 2.
Eurogamer Spain reports that Sony is working on a new version of their PSP system that would match the graphical and computational power of the original Xbox.
Reports say that the new system would carry an updated quad core chipset, built around the Imagination Technology’s PowerVR SGX543MP chipset, which would mean improved visuals, a faster CPU and longer battery life. There are also reports that the system would support Open GL 2.0 and DirectX 10.
If this is indeed true, then a new PSP would mean that the PSP Go would not have a very long shelf life. There would be no market share and the potential to grow, so it is unlikely that we will see the PSP 2 anytime soon. If Sony plays their cards like they normally do, then this system should be a couple years off while the PSP Go relishes in late game sales, similar to the redesigned PS2 in 2004.
Check back in the coming weeks to see if any more info on the new handheld surfaces.
