July 1, 2009 Update: Parks open. More information.
Imagine setting up camp in anticipation of the long 4th of July weekend. And along comes a State Park Ranger and asks you to leave, now, this evening!
Well, due to the budget issues in Arizona not being settled 13 Arizona State Parks have been closed to campers. That's right... shut, closed... no one can get in. If, by July 1st, a budget is not passed, the majority of State Parks will be closed.
Oddly, a couple of parks remain open. Show Low's Fool Hollow Lake State Recreation Area andLake Havasu State Park. Those parks will stay open through July 5..Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park is also open.
I have to admit that we take such things as our State Parks for granted. This may teach us a lesson. Please check the website below for updates.

They should have done this much earlier. In economic times such as these, we can hardly afford to allocate our money toward luxuries, while cutting funding to more essential programs, such as education.
well at least banks getting bailout money 14,4 trillion and illegal aliens still getting free heath care and weal-fare that's all that matters good job keep it up sheeeeple,,is this why i spent a year in Iraq?i cant even enjoy a park? most of you deserve NOTHING as you fight for nothing,, good job keep it up, obama is gonna give you all plenty of change he is a puppet working for wall street keeping bush's policy's of wars and debt going till America is bankrupt and there is no middle class.
Jeff your an idiot, when the hell does a state park constitute a luxury? and more money towards education? of what? of how our country is on the out? cause of retards like you and the stick in your asses? get a clue!! luxury what an ass you are. Education of how to shut up and follow the bullshit your fed daily, how to never question anything and to only accept the status quo? When food becomes scarce and survival is the only option state parks may be the only option.
The only lesson I take from the park closures is that the citizens of Arizona are very poor at picking competent people to run their state.
"WE" as in people from Az aren't the only ones that enjoy these parks. Jeff IS an idiot!, I'm sorry to say, but these parks are enjoyed by millions of tourists yearly...this means DOLLARS people! Get a grip!
