In Afton, Oklahoma on Route 66 is a renovated 1930s D-X filling station filled with Route 66 memorabilia and a vintage car collection of David and Laurel Kane.

David has a passion for restoring vintage cars especially Packards while Laurel has a passion for Route 66 and the people who travel the Mother Road. Laurel enjoys meeting and visiting with travelers from all over the continent and sharing her love of Route 66 with them. Laurel also maintains a blog “Ramblings of a Route 66 Business Owner” that contains vintage photos as well as current photos of Route 66 and Laurel’s reflection of Afton Station’s many visitors.

I have heard it over and over from people traveling Route 66 that it is the people you meet along the Mother Road that make it so special. And Laurel is definitely one of these people. Call 918-382-9465 for more information on Afton Station and to verify the hours of the station.

I missed this place on my last trip, so will have to keep track for my next 66 trek. I just posted an article about wine touring in a lovely old Packard, but not this old.

Laurel is one of my many RT "66 Roadsisters", she is an asset to The Mother Road!

Unless I am mistaken I was born in this old gas station in 1940. I thought it had been torn down. Care to contact me at scorpaci@juno.com?
