From Tulsa we continue on Route 66 to Sapulpa and its historic downtown that is listed on the Register of Historic Places.
Visit Frankoma Pottery and tour the factory where hand crafted pottery has been produced from Oklahoma red clay since 1933. The retail store at the factory has an area with seconds if you are looking for a bargain as well as the newest line of Frankoma being produced. (9549 Frankoma Rd, Sapulpa / 918-224-5511)
In the 1950’s Bruce Goff worked with John Frank founder of Frankoma Pottery to design the Frank Home. Joniece and Donna daughters of John Frank now reside in the home and offer tours of the house where Frankoma tiles are incorporated into the architecture of the home. Continue west on Route 66 traveling through Kellyville, Bristow, Depew and Stroud. In Stroud dine at the Rock Café an icon of Route 66 since 1939. Dawn Welch, owner of the Rock Cafe was the inspiration for Sally the Porsche in the movie Cars. The cafe burned in 2008 leaving only four walls and a concrete floor for Welch to rebuild from but a year later the Rock Café is open and again serving hungry travelers.
