Adrenaline junkies take the zip-line challenge at WIRED in Canton, TX

The ultimate adrenaline rush is located one hour east of Dallas in Canton, Texas. It’s true. That’s where we found WIRED – a no-holds-barred zip-lining challenge course waiting to whisk the day tripper looking for an adventure across 15 acres of Texas swampland and countryside.
One of the first of it's kind in the area, WIRED joins the ranks with popular zip-line tours once found only in vacation destinations or adventure camps around the world. WIRED opened in November 2008 and features the longest zip lines in Texas. The course links four zip lines and two wooded suspension bridges to professionally engineered steel platforms towering 45- and upwards of 90-feet off the ground.
The trip to WIRED is not for the faint of heart and it takes a minimal level of arm strength and stamina to play. Zipmasters at WIRED say speeds vary by person depending on weight and crosswinds, and Dallas Day Trips exceeded speeds of 45 mph!
Check out this video from the zip line course.

The zip line challenge course is staffed by certified zip guides who ensure safety while keeping riders motivated and laughing along the way. All participants spend time with certified WIRED guides for zip line training and safety instruction prior to stepping on the course.
Visit WIRED with family, friends, plan a team-building event or go alone and meet other adventure seekers. Dallas Day Trips recommends packing a picnic and plenty of water, wearing closed-toe shoes, socks and tying back long hair before you go.
WIRED is open year-round, weather permitting.
The course was fun. It was an adventure and definitely worth the drive. (See the slideshow below for photos from the Dallas Day Trips visit and YouTube video for zip-lining action.)
For more info:  Find WIRED online at www.ziptheusa.com or follow them on twitter @ziptheusa.
Getting there: From Dallas, head east along Interstate 20 towards Tyler. Approximately 20-30 minutes past Terrell, Texas, look for the Highway 19 sign (also the same exit for Canton’s First Monday Trade Days). Exit Highway 19 and turn right (south). WIRED is located on the left directly across the street from the main entrance to the famous First Monday Trade Days.
Fee: $55/person includes pre-zip safety instruction, personal guided tour along the course’s four zip lines and suspension bridges, and all safety equipment necessary to complete the course.  Expect to spend approximately two hours at WIRED.
Reservations recommended. Drop-ins welcome. Call 903-567-2681 and tell them Lea from the Examiner.com sent you.

Special thanks to Cindy, Mike, Shirley, Cody and all the guides and staff at WIRED that brought extreme adventure and fun into our day. Our cheeks were literally hurting when we left – we couldn’t stop smiling and laughing!
Also, thank-you to Will and Mandy Meadows for being my Dallas Day Trip partners-in-crime at WIRED.

My experience at WIRED was much greater than the other one in Athens. It was constructed much better and I felt much safer. I was SHOCKED at the fact that if I wanted to stop at any point...I couldn't. What if I got sick and couldn't go the whole zip? I'd be screwed! I also hit my leg pretty hard on the landing as I flew in. Another great thing about WIRED is that you can see the whole course and watch your friends zip. In Athens you're in the woods and don't see anyone until you're finished. I love being a thrillseeker but only if I feel safe. At WIRED...YOU'RE COMPLETELY SAFE. I've done both! Can't wait to bring my networking group there this summer. It's so much closer and easy to find!!! GO WIRED GO!!!

Thanks Lea for taking us along! This was SO fun! I had only been zip lining one other time and WIRED blew that out of the water, hands down! The staff took great care of us my stomache was sore from laughing the whole time. Wow, the longest zip line in Texas. This adrenaline junkie will check that off her list now....but will probably go back for more soon!

Thanks for the story! I've now gotten my "wings"! I have to say that WIRED is different from some of the other zip-line courses I've been on. It's a true challenge course with safety of the rider coming first and foremost. Like the poster above me It was kinda cool to so see others in our party zip and land. Lots to do in the area when you're done as well. Will definitely do again. BTW, a GREAT day to kill when you're stuck with a large group of teens.

We went for Father's Day and will probably go over Labor Day. We like the zip lines are Wired because it was so fast and we felt very safe. i liked the variety with the swinging bridges between each zip point. We didn't feel rushed by the guides taking us through the course either (which was good because one person with us was scared)!

I went to Wired on Labor Day 2009. It was super fun and safe. The staff was half of the fun, thanks guys! The course is just challenging enough to make it exciting but not difficult. Most anyone can do it. I am not a big fan of heights but I felt completely safe the whole time. At Wired they are all about making it safe and that shows in their equipment and staff. I will definitely be going back again and again. Well worth the price!!

I have looked and cannot find a zipline course in Athens (as thrillseeker above posted) There is one near Athens in LaRue, TX. named NY TX Zip Lines
I really liked the fact that you were in the woods there. You can get off any of the platforms at anytime. Please let me know where there is another one in Athens,

    thanks-
