Apple Butter Market
Bite into some home-grown goodness beginning today at the Apple Butter Markets in Sykesville. From June through October, these markets will be held the first Sunday of every month.
These Apple Butter Markets were developed three years ago by Destination Sykesville—a non-profit organization that carries out the mission of bringing more visitors out to the town of Sykesville. Since its establishment, the markets have seen enormous success. Now it is a tradition for locals and residents of surrounding areas to come out and attend.
Don’t be fooled by the product name “Apple Butter.” These markets boast many other goods as well. Local farmers come out baring their freshest produce including vegetables, fruits and herbs. Jams, preserves, honey, baked goods and many other locally produced items make for delicious buys also. Prepared food for visitors will be available onsite as well, including the widely famous Aw! Boy Fries, back by popular demand for this year’s Apple Butter Markets.
In addition to fine food and epicurean excitement, the Apple Butter Markets hold and display a wide range of vendors. Flower sales, crafts, candles and pottery are among a few of the expected purchases. Skilled artisans and antique dealers also frequently come out to these events bringing with them talent, skill and knowledge.
Live music schedules are lined up for each of the markets. Beginning at 1 p.m. on June 7, the band 24 Karat will perform the musical styles of modern rock, acoustic, classic, electric and 1980s hits. Other performers for later market dates include Ellen Cherry, Safe Harbor, Dedline and The Jenny Leigh Band.
The Apple Butter Markets are fun and festive follies in the town of Sykesville. Located at South Branch Park, the businesses in the surrounding Main Street area often benefit immensely during these events. Come on out for a Sunday and get a slice of the pie!
The South Branch Park is situated across the Patapsco River, in Sykesville, where an abandoned apple butter warehouse, more commonly referred to as “the apple butter property,” stands. The Apple Butter Markets begin at 10 a.m. and until 3 p.m. every first Sunday from June through October. For more information, call 410-795-8950 or e-mail ivy@sykesville.net.
