An understandably subdued David Cook performed the touching song "Permanent" on last night's season eight finale episode. Let's face it - the arms swaying in the audience are a bit distracting for us watching at home, but it sure shows how much everyone there was moved by the performance. As noted in my article yesterday, the live song was available on iTunes last night, and all proceeds from the downloads went to ABC2, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer. It's a cause near and dear to David's heart, as he recently lost his brother, Adam, to the disease. After the performance, David told Ryan that he was doing this for everyone affected by cancer. Proving that he is a true class act, David also commented on meeting both Adam and Kris and said, "I don't know that America can get this wrong."
The performance was obviously a success, as "Permanent" is currently no. 17 on iTunes. David was also shown on the finale episode pulling a fast one on Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, who he met on the FOX lot for an undisclosed reason. Much to their surprise (Well, considering they do this every season, it might not have been that big of a surprise, but who cares!?), David presented both of them with keys to their new Ford Fusion hybrid cars.

David was AMAZING!
It's number 7 now.
GUYS, THE VERSION YOU ARE BUYING IS NOT THE LIVE CHARITY VERSION, I TUNES DOES NOT HAVE IT YET.
His performance was stunning but unfortunately, iTunes still does not yet have his charity version available for download as of 2 pm EST. Of course, Adam & Kris' stuff has already been on there to download...
Not to take away anything from the current guys, but this performance was miles ahead of anything on Idol this year. That it was done for charity makes it that much more impressive.
Yes, Itunes doesn't have the charity live performance of it up yet. It was beautiful and moving and you can't take your eyes off of David Cook when he's on stage... or anywhere else! A lot of us have been assuming that Idol is holding back on it so that Kris and Adam's songs can make their way up the Itunes charts. Of course now, people who think they have bought the charity performance, have really bought his single of Permanent (which isn't a bad thing either). When the live charity performan
itunes better get there butts moving. Think about all the money the charity is losing because people don't realize that the Permanent they are buying is not the charity one. It's still not up yet!!!
Hey, don't worry so much about which version of Permanent people buy -- it's a great song that will do a lot of good for anyone who gets to hear any version. Eventually the kinks will get worked out and the charity will get $$$ -- meanwhile, a lovely song is getting the attention it deserves, and healing many hearts.
You can get it now! - link:

Great article thanks for getting the facts right. And I agree David Cook is a class act! Loved his performance on the finale.
I saw David in concert a few months ago. He was awesome then and he was awesome last night on the AI finale. Such a tender hearted person who captures attention wherever he goes. May David continue to draw strength from above during this emotional time of loss. A brother's love is precious and lives on forever. God has a purpose and a plan for everything we go through. Sending prayers of peace to David and his family.
To me, David Cook is still the best idol ever! Adam comes in a close 2nd! Yesterday's performance reminded me of how good Cook was last season and I immediately went on the net and see whether Season7 AI DVD is still on sale, unfortunately it is all sold out......
To me David Cook performance was awesome and wonderful and can't describe in the word. Everytime when he performed i am looking forward to see how wonderful he is and such good hearted guy.
The only reason why Adam was able to be a success this year with his song arrangements is because of what David brought to Idol last year. I saw him in concert in March and he was amazing.. just as I expected him to be. I don't think there has been or will ever be another well mannered, more deserving, kind hearted person to win Idol like David Cook and he deserves all the good fortune coming his way.
david cook was the greatest idol ever.
Agreed with Amy..even Adam said that in one of the interviews..he just took the example of what david does on the show..David still the most original contestant ever..for now, nobody can top that, even Adam or Kris..his going to be even bigger soon..trust me!
David Cook was amazing at the AI 09 finale. Love Permanent. I have his album and this and the A Daily AntheM are the top ones in my list.
sick and tired of cook and his fans pimping this song all over the internet, asking all fanbases to buy it just to compete with allen and lambert on itunes... they are pathethic, and i am going to instead donate directly to the charity. am disgusted with these petty actions just to sell a cd to compete with the current winner and runner up. pathethic.
ananot, you're the pathetic one. How can you disgrace David's charitable efforts and peoples reaction to this truly emotional performance? Have you no soul or heart?
ananot, if there is something pathetic is Lambert, making declarations about having a crush on Chris. I don't know how Chris' wife felt about her husband sharing a room with Adam Lambert. Your runner up is the only one looking for attention at any price. That is pathetic.
Got something to say?
