Most people who go speed dating are tired of the randomness of bars and inconsistency  of online dating sites.  Speed dating gives you a chance to meet and greet a variety of people in your chosen age range.  Five to eight minutes is plenty of time to know if this is someone you would like to meet again.

Here are a few tips to make your speed dating experience a success.

It's okay to go it alone

Everyone who is at speed dating is there to meet new people.  Whether you are a guy looking for a girl, or a girl for a guy, you will easily meet new people of both genders.  Good speed dating sites will have a pre-date mixer so you can meet people of both sexes.  While it is fine to go alone, it is fun to do with a friend as well.  Just be sure to choose a friend that does not have the same taste as you do in the opposite sex, because that could be trouble.  Having a friend along does give you someone to discuss the people you met throughout the evening.

What to wear

Wear something you would wear on a first date.  Everyone has their favorite first date outfit, the outfit that you feel most attractive.  You want to feel good about yourself while meeting potential dates.  If you are not sure what to wear, be sure to get the opinion of a friend before venturing out.   For girls, remember that you will most likely be sitting down so anything too short or tight will not be flattering of comfortable.  Since most men are taller, be sure to not show too much cleavage because it can be very distracting for the men.  Guys, please get a female opinion when you are getting dressed.  It is painfully obvious when a man does not have female input on his wardrobe.  Bill Cosby's sweaters and acid washed jeans went out in the eighties and girls will talk.

What to talk about

Remember, you are taking five or so minutes to break the ice and see if this is someone you are interested in seeing again.  Obviously it is all about initial attraction.  However, if you are attracted to someone and you cannot carry on a five minute conversation, how successful will you be on a two hour date?  Do not ask prying questions at this point.  Just give out general information about yourself; where you are from, what you do for a living, education, hobbies, music.  This is not an interview, so stay on neutral topics.  If you are more outgoing, you may have to carry the conversation, but give the other person the benefit of the doubt.

Have a good attitude

Attitude is everything.  If you go into any dating experience expecting to find your one true love, you will most likely end up disappointed.  If you look at speed dating as a way to network and expand your social circle, you will have better luck.  Five minutes with someone who is miserable feels like five hours, so do not be that person.

Lucky 7 (http://lucky7match.com) is one of the many options for speed dating in San Diego.  Lucky 7 has an after party after each event, which is a great opportunity to get to know people you have met that night.    Whether or not you meet your future husband/wife, you are guaranteed to have a good time and lots to talk about afterwards.
