Are you driven crazy by the tender/tough persona of guys who belt out tunes in voices that make angels weep? Does the sound of a bass guitar send you into stripper-overdrive? Do you love rock and roll and the rockers?
It's an all together surreal experience to date a rock musician - and that's just the local, not-yet-famous ones. Most music men carry an air of intrigue about them and possess that ethereal quality that’s somehow missing in the "Joe Next Door" type, whose musical creativity is limited to belching in tandem to his alma mater's fight song. (No offense Joe) Well ladies, the 80’s might be over but there’s still musicians a-plenty to be found in Sacramento. You just have to know where to look these days. I’ve uncovered three good places to start your search for these rock stars – what you do to get the date is all up to you. Let’s start with the most obvious first – live music bars/clubs:

9426 Greenback Lane
Orangevale Ca 95662
916 988 9247
First, make sure there’s no obvious female counterpart on his arm. Cat fights complete with dual screaming women aren’t usually considered a prop by the band - hissing and clawing isn't a good look on any woman, no matter what Motley Crue might have portrayed. Crazy, jealous females, unfortunately, come with the rock band territory. It's been this way since the dawn of time.
Next, if you catch his attention during the performance, and his signals tell you to "come on over" during his break time, remember you'll make a greater impression on him with intelligent conversation about the subject at hand, then by just undressing him with your eyes. Act as interested in his music as you are in his butt. Ask him questions about the band, a particular song, how long it took to learn to play, who he wrote it for - the more knowledgeable you seem, the better. This may help you stand out over other, more obvious girls who might be hanging out at the club on a mission of their own. This being said, make sure you check out The Boardwalk’s website for a schedule rundown of the local bands, cover charges, hours of operations and all that other jazz.
For those of you who prefer a nature setting to the hunt, be sure to rock out with the rocker boys at a concert in the park:

Friday Night Concert in the Park
Cesar Chavez Plaza
10th & J Streets
Sacramento Ca 95814
916 442 8575
These concerts run from May 18th – August 14th. There’s only a handful of Friday night concerts left so you might want to get cracking soon. The shows feature local artists from different genres including rock, blues, punk, pop and folk. Check the website for the remaining show dates to see when your type of music, featuring your favorite hottie-type of musician and his band, will be performing under the stars. Admission is free and there’s a beer garden too!
I saved a rather different idea for last. I found the following in the musician category of the Meet up.com. directory:
The Sacramento Rock Meet Up Group “Meet other local fans of live rock music to talk about the music scene and fun nightlife. A great opportunity to find people of similar interests to explore the Sacramento music scene.” (From the group website)
.jpg)
This avenue may take you a bit longer to explore as this group is new. But there's sure to be some members who are also musicians in the group.
This group, started by a musician named Andy, looks to be comprised of fans from Sacramento and surrounding areas who not only live for Sacramento live rock, and the local rock bands, but also those bands that hail from other surrounding cities - such as San Francisco. You're sure to fit right in if you dig talking about the Sacramento and surrounding area music scene and night life in general. It looks like they do everything from honoring past and present California musical legends by holding specific events, to showing up to support their favorite bands at whatever place they're booked. ( A group sort of like the Dead Heads - that crowd of fans who followed the Grateful Dead around for years, wherever they did roam - but on a much less intense scale, and it seems their loyalties are equally distributed among quite a few bands:)
According to the website, the group tries to meet at least monthly at different locations. It looks like it will be a great way to meet some musicians, once it gets going. You may have to be patient for a bit but you might have some fun socializing while you're digging around for info on rock gods.I did notice the Sacramento Rock Meet Up website has a section listing upcoming music shows and special events. And it's a definite networking system! You will be meeting people who know people who know music men! And because this meet up group seems to include members of varying ages with meetings catering to their musical interests, this could turn out to be the best musician one-stop shopping arena yet - for more than a few of you females! Have fun!

Hey Phil,
Thanks so much for your kind words! As a realtionship/dating examiner it's hard sometimes to "report" in the normal factual way - as you would know.
Looking forward to delving into your column!
