The fabulous Erika Jayne has been making noise on the scene for a few years now with her Billboard number one hits "Roller Coaster," "Stars" and "Give You Everything." I will proudly admit that I am a fan and have enjoyed following the songstress on her rise to fame.
On my last night at the Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach, FL (March 28), I attended one of the best parties of the week, which showcased Dangerous Muse (vocalist Mike Furey and programmer/keyboardist Tom Napack) and pop/dance diva Erika Jayne. Held at Mokai in South Beach, Orlando Puerta put on a Mr. Black event with a room full of hipsters and dance music lovers. The night featured DJCat and DJ Johnny the Boy - the most amazing DJs of the week in my opinion! I danced like crazy and had such an amazing time.
Dangerous Muse opened the night with a very refreshing sexy performance that I just cannot forget, it was so hot. Everyone should check these guys out. They ROCK! Then, after making everyone go crazy with anticipation, at 2:15 am Erika Jayne took the stage with a bevy of super hot dancers that would make anyone go gaga! Her new show was definitely powerful and filled with fantastic costumes and choreography along with some surprises for the audience. Brilliantly executed, Ms. Jayne has secured herself as a force to be reckoned with and was the week's true grand finale for me and I am sure many others in attendance.
Lucky me and lucky for you, I got to interview Erika Jayne about her upcoming show at the Dinah Shore Week in Palm Springs (March 30 - April 4) as well as what's been going on in her world.
Your first three singles - are monster club world and dance radio hits. "Give You Everything" registered in the Top-ten of the year on Billboard Dance. How does it feel to be welcomed so strongly by the dance market?
EJ: It's like a dream come true. It feels great!
What was the last current pop song that you listened to that you honestly enjoyed?
EJ: Tik Tok by Ke$ha is fun!
What are you currently listening to in your iPod/ mp3 player?
EJ: Nikka Minaj is who I'm loving right now.
Who are your top three favorite artists/musicians of all time?
EJ: Lil Kim, Madonna, Prince
I am loving your current CD. Tell me a bit about the style, sound and experience of your current album “Pretty Mess.”
EJ: Pretty Mess is about Fantasy, Love and escape. It gives you a lot to play with.
Your producer Peter Rafelson produced “Pretty Mess.” What was it like working with the Madonna "Open Your Heart" producer?
EJ: Peter made me feel very comfortable and I always love working with him.
How has the Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach, FL been for you this year?
EJ: Yes, I am here now. I have 6 shows in 5 days and lots of interviews. Miami is always good to me.
The GirlBar Dinah Shore Event is shaping up to be a mammoth Women's Circuit Party and some are comparing it to the "new" Lilith Fair. This year has the most powerful lineup of superstar talent yet, like Kelly Rowland, Kelis, DJ Samantha Ronson and singer and guitarist Orianthi. Your fans can't wait to see your Pool Party show. How excited are you to be playing this gig?
EJ: I can't wait to give the girls a good show!
You've had a ton of experience performing for "the boys" all around the country. How are you preparing for this all female, predominantly lesbian, audience?
EJ: It's going to be a blast, now I can really sex it up!
What are you looking forward to most about performing for the girls @ Girl Bar Dinah Shore Week?
EJ: I'm sure I'll be vibing off the girl power. They've always been super supportive of me so now I get to do something for them.
Are you planning on hanging out for some of the other performances and events at Dinah Shore? Any other performers you are looking to meet at Dinah Shore this year?
EJ: If my schedule allows - sure - I would love to. I'm a big fan of Kelis'.
