Kathy Griffin.
My husband and I like a good laugh so we were curious about this new ABC show that was supposed to come out when "Dancing with the Stars" ended, essentially the dancing replacement series. Hosted by comedian Kathy Griffin, it was supposed to be celebrities recreating famous dance scenes, but the twist was to make them funny. Originally, the show was to premiere immediately following the finale of "Dancing with the Stars." Yet now ABC has announced "Let's Dance" was canceled.
The show hadn't even begun filming. Just what was ABC thinking?
According to Variety, "Let's Dance" was to be a show based on the BBC1 show, "Let's Dance for Comic Relief." Launched in January, the show is produced by Whizz Kid together with FremantleMedia North America. Variety quotes Julie Uribe, a senior VP of FremantleMedia North America who said "Whizz Kids had incredible success in the U.K. with this format, and we do believe it will be attractive to celebrities who may have never considered unscripted TV."
And while the successful DWTS (which began ahead of Britain's "Strictly Come Dancing"), requires a couple of months, "Let's Dance" would only require a one-week commitment by celebrities.
Why the sudden change of heart by ABC? Variety reported on Monday that finding celebrities who wanted to commit to one-week during the holiday season was the main problem. Not poor Kathy Griffin. Wondered how they broke the news to her.
See Robert Webb doing a scene from the 1983 movie"Flash Dance." Also Paddy McGuinness and Keith Lemon take on "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" from the 1987 "Dirty Dancing."
