Despite having good scores and being one of the top 40 search trends, particularly since landing her December Playboy cover, model Joanna Krupa didn't have the fan base to propel her into the semi-finals; she lost her spot to Donny Osmond. Krupa was partnered with Derek Hough, one of the more popular dancers as evidenced by his being chosen, along with his sister, to be the two professionals in last season's Macy's Design a Dance. His popularity and a nod from Hugh Hefner weren't enough to keep Krupa and Hough in the running. The finals will have the teams: Mya and Dmitry Chaplin, Kelly Osbourne and Louis Van Amstel and Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson.

Osmond and Johnson were at the bottom of the leader board at the end of Monday night.
Mya and Dmitry Chaplin: 87 (28, 30, 29)
Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough: 81 (27, 27, 27)
Kelly Osbourne and Louis Van Amstel: 78 (24, 27, 27)
Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson: 74 (21, 26, 27)
Things didn't look good at the end of Monday night. Donny Osmond and his partner Kym Johnson began Monday night with a tango that should have been a snap. Osmond and Johnson had been the high mark for the Argentine tango with 29 during week 5 and as part of Team Tango, they had received a 28. Team Tango members were Osmond and Johnson, Osbourne and Van Amstel and Krupa and Hough, with Krupa and Hough as team captains.
Monday night, a wardrobe malfunction made Johnson's footwork a little tricky and they had scored a 21 (straight sevens). The rest of their program had improved scores. The last time Osmond and Johnson had received a 21 was during week 3 for the rumba (to Lionel Richie and Diana Ross' "Endless Love"). Osmond and Johnson's lowest score for individual dances was a 20 from the first week for the foxtrot.

Osbourne and Van Amstel performed the paso doble week 5 instead of the Argentine tango. Their team was the only team performing the tango during week 2 who survived the competition. The others (UFC champion Chuck Liddell and pro dancer Anna Trebunskaya, actor Debi Mazar and pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and former U.S. House Majority leader Tom DeLay and pro dancer Cheryl Burke) were eliminated or withdrew. Delay and Burke withdrew due to injury (DeLay's stress fractures in both feet) during week 3. Mazar and Chmerkovskiy were eliminated week 3. Liddell and Trebunskaya were eliminated week 4.
Popularity is what kept Osmond and Johnson in, and allowed better dancers such as Krupa and Hough, and earlier, Aaron Carter and his partner Karina Smirnoff, to be eliminated despite good scores. This is also what helped another Osmond make the semi-finals and the finals.
In season 5, Marie Osmond and Jonathan Roberts received a 29 (quickstep to “Good Morning” by Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor) and a 27 (for the mambo to "Gualione” by Perez Pardo), but were at the bottom with a total score of 56. Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough got two perfect scores (foxtrot to “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head” by Robbie Williams and cha cha cha to "Love Rollercoaster" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers) as did Mel B and Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Viennese waltz to “Somebody to Love” by Queen and paso doble to the Rolling Stones' “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Beverly Hills 90210 actor Jennie Garth and professional dancer Derek Hough received a 28 (tango to “The Take Over, The Breaks Over” by Fall Out Boy) and a 30 (for cha cha cha to "Mustang Sally” by Wilson Picket), but still were eliminated.
In the season 5 finals, Marie received a 24 and a 22, (samba for "Chica Chica Boom Chic" by Carmen Miranda and her freestyle to “Start Me Up” by Rolling Stones). Season 5 also included Sabrina Bryan, Cheetah Girl band member, whose elimination was one of the big surprises. Bryan was partnered with Mark Ballas. Bryan and Ballas returned this season for Macy's Design a Dance to perform a paso doble.
Osmond and Johnson's move into the finals also serves notice to Mya and Chaplin. Osmond obviously has a fan base and it may be a deciding factor in the finals.

I was one of the people who voted for Kelly. I felt she deserved it because she was most improved from week one and has to work a lot harder than Joanna who appears to have had some dancing lessons in her background.
How you vote is your choice. However, let get it straight, this contest is about the best dancer, not most improved, who had non-ballroom related dance lessons, or poor little rich boys and girls seeking sympathy. Its unfortunate how meritocracy has taken over this country
