So You Think You Can Dance contemporary dancer Kathryn McCormick and her B-boy partner Legacy made it to the Season 6 Top 10. Instead of struggling with the different styles thrown at her, Kathryn became stronger throughout the competition. Her week five jazz number with Legacy was highly praised by the judges and her Viennese Waltz was elegant. She carried the waltz routine, helping Legacy who failed to master all the technical footwork, natural and reverse turns. Coming from a breakdancer background Legacy still did a good job and was one of the stars of the night. However it was Kathryn who captured the attention with her grace and performance skills. Nigel thought she stole the evening. This show is unpredictable, but from current indications she could easily be in the Top 4. Forums took notice and her fan base is growing.

The first part of this season seemed to be more focused on the male dancers: Nathan Trasoras, Jakob Karr, Legacy Perez, Russell Ferguson, and Ryan Di Lello. All made it into the Top 10. While the women seemed to be somewhat overshadowed, Kathryn McCormick, Ashleigh Di Lello and Ellenore Scott started emerging followed by Noelle Marsh who got off to a slow start. Mollee Gray is very talented, but she’s had some struggles with her partner Nathan Trasoras. The judges suggested that dissolving the partnership might help both dancers to mature and grow. Kathryn and Ashleigh were stars during the last show that named the Top 10.

Week 1: Kathryn danced with Billy Bell (withdrew due to illness) Noelle Marsh and Victor Smalley
. They danced to “Viva La Vide” by Coldplay choreographed by Mandy Moore. The judges gave her positive comments. In the partnership dances Kathryn and Legacy drew hip-hop with “On & On” by Missy Elliot, choreographed by Dave Scott. Legacy was expected to do well in this number, but Kathryn nailed it. She was strong and her popping was a surprise. It became apparent Legacy and Kathryn had chemistry.

Week 2: Kathryn and Legacy drew contemporary with Stacey Tookey who selected Patti LaBelle’s emotional piece “2 Steps Away.”
The concept was about a woman struggling with fear. It reminded some fans of Mia Michaels’ “Addiction” piece danced by Kayla and Kupono in Season 5. Judge Adam Shankman commented, “Kathryn you are bringing out something so beautiful in him [Legacy] and him in you as well.” Nigel Lythgoe, “You are someone who’s been under the radar…you are going to be around for a long time to come if you keep dancing like that young lady.”

Week 3: Kathryn and Legacy danced a Broadway number “I Wan’na Be Like You (The Monkey Song) by choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler.
Although this was a cute routine, Nigel thought Kathryn was “dancing too juvenile.”

Week 4: Paso Doble “Pursuit” by Ka choreographed by Tony Meredith
Kathryn once again stood out in an excellent routine that showcased her talent. It was difficult not to be overshadowed by her partner Legacy only because his backstory of b-boy jumping into difficult styles was compelling. However Kathryn was able to have a starring role along with Legacy. Mary Murphy [to Kathryn], “Tony was asking for intensity and passion…you brought it all. You were right on the money.” Adam Shankman, “You killed it.”

Week 5: Kathryn and Legacy drew a Sonya Tayeh jazz “So Deep” by Hot Chip. This was a wonderful routine that showcased Legacy’s b-boy style and Kathryn’s beautiful contemporary prowess. The judges felt this was one of the best dances of the season. Next they danced the Viennese Waltz. Kathryn was on fire and she deserved to be in SYTYCD's Top 10.
