Joanna Krupa was voted off ‘Dancing with the Stars’ last night even though the judges gave her the second highest marks in the semi-final competition. Consistently receiving high scores, she wasn’t able to muster up enough fan appeal to beat out Donny Osmond, Mya or Kelly Osbourne. However she had Hugh Hefner and his entourage of lovely girls in the audience to help promote her upcoming December issue photos in Playboy magazine. Krupa’s appearance in Playboy follows other stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Marge Simpson.
Donny Osmond has a strong work ethic, great personality and showmanship. Even when he faltered during his last tango, his fan base was strong enough to place him in the finals. This ended the all women final that the DWTS judges set up by their marks. But it also leaves the show open for more entertainment with his ebullient personality and off the wall antics. Osmond’s response to Bruno after his “airy fairy” remarks during an earlier show had most people laughing out loud. Also Osmond danced on a broken toe without any complaints and when he was exhausted from his busy schedule. His Argentine tango with partner Kym Johnson was beautiful, so he is capable of garnering many fan votes.
Kelly Osbourne has a very compelling story. The wild child whose awkward teen years were broadcast on reality TV struggled with her identity in public. She talked about her serious and life threatening drug addiction problem. She could have died from the number of pills she was taking a day. She also missed out on an opportunity to play the lead in a Broadway production of 'Chicago' because of her inexperience with dance. She lost her confidence during part of the show and fought her way back. She also has a child like vulnerability and honesty, which is appealing to viewers. She brushed off her sprained ankle during mid-season and kept fighting to get to the finals.
Mya is the strongest competitor and the judges had to dig deep to find things to correct throughout the season. At times they seemed harder on her than some of her weaker opponents. Mya deserves the expression “Oh My, Oh Mya!” or “Mya on Fire-ya!” She has a natural dance ability with a focus and competitive work ethic. Sometimes the best dancer doesn’t win. Sometimes the viewers want to see the underdog win. This keeps the final more interesting with surprises like losing Joanna Krupa in the semi-finals.
