Whiskers Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to spaying and neutering feral, untamed cats. This is an incredible service for homeless and feral cats. Benefits also extend to cat lovers, communities, and those who are not so fond of felines.
Before returning neutered cats to their environment, each feline receives treatment for parasites, testing for Feline leukemia virus, and vaccinations. In addition, each is Ear Tipped, which saves recapturing a cat and aids community members involved with the colony.
Cats become feral if born outdoors without human contact; they literally are wild and rarely make good pets unless captured as very young kittens. Feral cats live short lives usually but have litter after litter of kittens. Cats are well suited to hunt for their meals and they tend to live near human communities with plentiful garbage supplies like restaurants.
Often a community takes care of them by dropping food in the cat colonies colonies habitat. Regardless the cats remain feral and wild. Whiskers Rescue removes very young kittens from colonies when possible. Kittens tame easily for adoption in loving homes. Feral colonies decrease over time through neutering ail adults and captured kittens. Eventually the colony humanely ceases with no reproduction but the adults remain a community and live out their lives together. .
Without such a program, a feral cat and her mate will conceive 11,606,077 new homeless cats in 9 years. Statistics show that about 2.8 kittens per litter survive to reproduce. Imagine the possibilities from one cat kindly helped but left un-neutered! ridiculous mus.
