Terrell Owens will not be a Dallas Cowboy in 2009?

Two of the biggest rumor mongers in the NFL, Adam Schefter and FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, said on NFL Total Access that they do not believe Terrell Owens will be in a Dallas Cowboys uniform in 2009 and I am sure they both have some inside information.

Folks, when Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones said they planned some serious changes in the organization, you have to believe that it would be more than firing the defensive coordinator and special teams coach. I also believe it is almost guaranteed that the Cowboys will either trade or release Terrell Owens and take the salary cap hit.

It's a very risky move for the Cowboys but not one that could destroy their 2009 season any more than this past season was crushed. But there is something that people need to understand when it comes to Terrell Owens: He probably practices harder than anyone on the team, and I do believe that some people looked at him as a mentor. I think he was supportive of those who were supportive of him and he was fun to practice with. The problems on the field this year very well could have been the fault of the play calling and Tony Romo just having an off year, one that wasn't horrible, but certainly not spectacular. Plus, the Cowboys had a horrible turnover ratio, one of the worst in the NFL. No one wins when you turn over the ball so much.

But the thought of Terrell Owens not being a Cowboy won't disappoint many Cowboys fans. When you look at the teams that have made the Super Bowl the last few years, none had the "paper" talent that the Cowboys have. You think of the clutch plays Giants players made against the Patriots, and none of those players were key guys for the Giants this year. It has more to do with heart, team chemistry and good coaching.

The Arizona Cardinals limped into the playoffs and now they are playing in the Super Bowl with one star receiver, another real good one and no real running game with an average defense. But they had good coaching and a ton of heart.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a terrific defense and no real big names on offense. Hines Ward is the go to guy, but you wouldn't compare him with Terrell Owens would you? But Hines Ward is a quiet leader in the locker room. That's how you win ball games.

But what NFL.com points out is that if the Cowboys let Owens go, Romo will suffer (more in fantasy football value than in winning games).

If Schefter and Glazer are right and Owens will soon be out of the mix in Dallas, the past indicates the value of Tony Romo would suffer.

In 21 games while Owens was in Philadelphia, Donovan McNabb averaged 280 passing yards and two touchdown passes (4,480 passing yards, 32 touchdowns — 16 games). In the 40 games post T.O., McNabb has averaged 247 passing yards and 1.5 touchdown passes (3,952 yards, 24 touchdowns — 16 games)

Expect a receiving corps of Roy E. Williams, Jason Witten, Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin in 2009 and a much improved locker room, especially if the Cowboys bring in Ray Lewis to help DeMarcus Ware anchor the defense.

I've actually followed some of this ... I agree, I think he will be gone ... I think there is a lot of personal animosity going on between T.O. and management in the DC organization, and I think they just want him gone ... his numbers don't really justify keeping him if they really want him gone and, really, who can say if Romo will suffer, based on McNabb? After all, McNabb doesn't have Jessica Simpson cheering him on from the sidelines ... :D

You might want to fix your header.

Header fixed. Weird because it was correct on Digg.

Mechele, I would bet my savings account they either trade or release him and it will likely be release

Ray lewis won't be in dallas unless TO is kept on the team. We won't have any salary cap room to sign him. Injuries were the main reason we faltered this year. Nobody was talking about Dallas being a contender until TO's arrival gave us a "proven" receiver to strengthen our passing game with Drew Bledsoe. TO and Williams would be a better match than Crayton and Williams.
Finally, how did the Giants without Plaxico and Shockey?? They were clearly not the same team this year.

Russell, I disagree. We're watching two teams in the playoffs, who other than Larry Fitzgerald, lack "stars"
They do have chemistry and good coaching. Ray Lewis could be a Cowboys without TO. the salary cap is tricky, but the money can be loaded at the lower end of the contract

tony romo, a good passing qb but no more than a danny white and dw could punt. romo can't be consistent more than 1-2 games in a roll. sure he was missed when his pinky was injured because of who we had as a backup, brad johnson. romo's just lucky! jason garrett loves him, cause he has about the same playing skills.garrett couldn't beat out troy aikman and romo couldn't either. therefore, we don't have a quality qb, period! lord only knows, where our backup qb is. i think it's romo!of course i'm not saying troy aikman wasn't a good qb, he was great! but we don't have a qb with brains. romo is probably fun on outings. he's alot like TO, both are party animals but that's all they have in common! TO is a worker in practice and during games. romo is not our leader. i would think TO would make everyone, including the coaches, if it would help us win. to's problem is his hands, he seldom catches anything thrown to him, w/out handles (3 thumbs on each hand)! once he catches the ball, look out, he's great! not quick but like hershall walker. once he got the speed up, caddy bar the door. that's the way hershall was on kickoff returns, no one better. and that's the way TO is! the best hands receiver in football is fitzgerald w/ arizona. TO needs those hands! sorry to wonder off but the cowboys need a qb and lets have troy aikman find him. we could use denvers great Xcoach shanehan, who has a good offense mind and demands respect from his player, worked w/ wade in denver. he could teach jason garrett, what he lacks. the teams that beat the boy's last year were all in the playoff, w/ the exception of st louis rams. the cowboys are close to winning but some of these changes mentioned above, need to be made, if not all! you can't expect leadership when a clown takes the snaps w/out a backup! thanks, troy

in 2009 all they have to do is get rid

the cancer in the cowboys locker room.

If Owens goes so does alot of the fans including me. Have been a Cowboy fan all my life and I am 63 years old. When Owens came to the Cowboys it was a real boost for the team. The team is what counts and the fans. 2 or 3 people on the teame should not rule. I think Owens can really win this year. Lets have a decent quarter back instead of letting Owens go.

Don't let T.O. go. The Cowboys, Jerry Jones, have made enough mistakes. Don't play stupid again.

I thought the reason T.O. came to the Cowboys was to help the team win games. Well as long as he has been a Cowboy that is exactly what he has done. These other reasons to get rid of him don't make any sense to alot of us. Can't some of the people he says things to take it? Or are their egoes too fragile? Please, keep T.O. and get a quarterback, Please.
