Dallas Cowboys need to end strong in December

Let's face it: The Dallas Cowboys have not been a very good football team in December. The numbers are staggering. The Cowboys are 17-29 in December since 1999. December is the only month during that entire period in which the Cowboys do not have a winning record.

Quarterback Tony Romo downplayed the trend:

"I know that it will be something people will want to talk about, but December, November, September, October, it's all the same to us," Romo said. "I know that it might be whatever it is to certain people, but it's all about improving each time you're out there. If you do that consistently, December will take care of itself, January will take care of itself."

The Cowboys offense showed very little signs that it was still struggling in the 24-7 win over the Oakland Raiders. It just took three quarters to get warmed up.

This year's December just happens to be the toughest month for the Cowboys when looking at the opponents. They head to New York in 10 days, then face the Chargers, Saints, Redskins and Eagles.

Head coach Wade Phillips also avoided talking about the December slumps.

"We've just got to keep winning. We've got to keep playing well; we've got to keep executing well," Phillips said. "We're not in the playoffs. We haven't won our division. We haven't accomplished anything except I thought we played well. "I like the way they work. I like the way they're focused. I like the camaraderie. It'll play out."
