Cowboys resting Romo, Bryant's playing status unknown

After a little huffing and puffing about the possibility of playing the starters for a series or two, Tony Romo won't get the chance to see what he can do against Miami's second team defense. Called a lose-lose situation by DallasCowboys.com's Mickey Spagnola -- either Romo drives down the field and scores, at which point it was "just" against the second team defense, or Romo doesn't drive down the field, which will incite cries of how the Cowboys can't move the ball against second stringers -- the decision to sit both Romo and backup quarterback Jon Kitna may have also had something to do with the number of injuries that have sprung up over the past few weeks.

2009 draft pick Stephen McGee, who is on the bubble for making the roster, will get the start at quarterback. But who will he be throwing the ball to? Dez Bryant's status for the game is in limbo as the coaching staff continues to evaluate his ankle, but even if he plays, he may only get a series or two.

The fourth preseason game is of utmost importance to guys like Barry Church, Mike Hamlin, Danny McCray, Jesse Holley, who are trying to prove they belong on the 53-man roster. While some positions, like wide receiver, seem pretty much settled, other questions remain, like how many defensive backs to keep and whether or not to have three quarterbacks. McGee's play on Thursday will help answer that last question.
