With a few exceptions like Jon Kitna and Kevin Ogletree, it looks like most of the Dallas Cowboys decided to take Saturday night off. Perhaps someone should have told them they had a game to play.
Sure, the Cowboys were playing very vanilla. And sure, the Texans weren't playing nearly as vanilla. But vanilla or not, you have to execute. In fact, at this point in training camp, executing a simplified playbook should be something you can do in your sleep.
And perhaps that is what the Cowboys were trying to do.
Tony Romo ended his night with a remarkable 13 of 18 for 146 yards and an interception. Remarkable considering he did it without an offensive line. And while two members of that line aren't the projected starters, it was a lack of cohesion from the entire unit that had Romo being used as a punching bag for the Texans defense.
And the passing game was the bright side for the first team offense. Felix Jones and Marion Barber managed to put together a whopping 4 yards on 6 attempts.
All around, it was a forgettable performance, but is it time to panic? Last week, I asked if the Cowboys offense was in trouble after a poor outing against the San Diego Chargers. So while the Cowboys just broke camp and may have their minds in other places, this is not the first time they've laid down a stinker in the preseason. In fact, they have yet to really put it together in any of the four games they've played.
Wade Phillips thinks it might be time for a little panic. After the game, he mentioned there would be a discussion around whether or not to play the starters some in the final preseason game, a game that is traditionally the domain of the second, third and fourth string players.
