Local cyclist Heidi Clayton was hit by a car after the Thursday morning training ride in Ahwatukee on Thursday. She was transported to Maricopa Medical Center to receive treatment, and is fairing well so far.
Heidi is a local racer, and can be seen on many local SE Valley rides. She faces a few surgeries and a 2 week hospital stay. Reports indicate that a truck turned in front of her trying to beat a traffic light.
Last night she was in surgery for several hours to stabilize her spinal column from damage in the accident. She faces atleast one more surgery to help with a damaged disk as well.
She has been receiving many words of encouragement from Facebook friends, and the hundreds of cyclists in the local community.
