Chad Beyer of the BMC Professional cycling team, and from Arizona, made the main breakaway today at the Amgen Tour of California, the biggest US race on the cycling calendar.
With time bonuses on the stage today, this left Beyer in the top ten overall. Lately Beyer has been a breakaway threat. Getting into early moves, and lasting through tough sections to score sprint points, and small time bonuses for intermediate sprints. This tactic landed Beyer the Green Sprinters Jersey at the recent Tour de Romandie in Switzerland.
Check out tonight's coverage on Versus to see Chad in the break, and results on various websites to track his progress through this week-long event. When watching, look for the crash in the closing circuits. When you see Tom Boonan go down, former Team Waste Management now Jelly Belly pro Sean Mazich is on his wheel. Sean eventually finishes in 33rd place on the stage.
